My Lacote-style Romantic guitars pay homage to the great French luthier René Lacote, whose instruments shaped the sound of early-to-mid-19th century music. Built with a devotion to historical accuracy yet informed by modern sensibilities, these Romantic guitars blend lightweight construction, refined ornamentation, and contemporary serviceability.
Each Lacote guitar features ladder bracing, thin French-polished finishes, and laminated spruce-and-hardwood sides that enhance projection and tonal focus—hallmarks of the period, refined through my own experimentation. Necks are joined using my CNC-cut and hand-fit bolt-on V-joint, a practical evolution of Lacote’s traditional mortise-and-tenon, allowing precise neck-angle adjustment and easy disassembly for travel or service.
Offered in variations such as curly maple, Australian walnut, ziricote, cherry, and Indian rosewood, these Lacote-style guitars range from subtly adorned to elegantly figured, each representing a balance between early Romantic aesthetics and modern performance reliability. Pegheds planetary tuners provide exceptional tuning sensitivity without compromising the vintage appearance.
While the instruments listed here are available for immediate purchase, every build begins as a conversation. If you desire a custom Romantic guitar inspired by 19th-century design but tailored to your own musical voice, I invite you to contact me to explore a personal commission.
